Befriending

We have a befriending service for any woman who has or is receiving support from our centre. We aim to help women to build their confidence and self esteem, to reduce their sense of isolation and to have fun!

Our befriending service developed out of women’s feedback to us that they felt very isolated and would welcome a befriending service. The main aim is to provide support and friendship, via a volunteer befriender to any individual accessing our support service. You can apply for a befriender if you are experiencing difficulties with your mental health, you are isolated from your community and other people, and you are unable to access activities e.g. swimming, walking as you require support to do so.

You must be or have been receiving support from the centre and be willing to take part in social and leisure opportunities with your befriender.

How do I apply?

You need to complete an application form. You can complete these yourself or with the help of your support worker. The form is then passed on to the Volunteers co-ordinator who may meet with you to discuss befriending, any expectations, waiting times for a befriender, confidentiality and any other information relating to the service.

Please contact us for more information.

“The befriending has changed my life, I am able to do things that I haven’t done for years, like going to the movies. Having someone there that doesn’t judge, I feel safe and I’m always guaranteed a good laugh!”
